Instruction

Joel leads an instructional division with more than 300 full-time faculty and several hundred adjunct faculty, as well as division deans and associate deans.

He holds an Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration from Baylor University (2001), an M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Texas (1993) and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Management from Texas A&M University (1990).

Dr. Michaelis has worked in education for more than 30 years. Prior to his arrival at SCC, Joel served as vice president of academic affairs/CAO at Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College. He also served as dean of Navarro College South and vice president of instruction at Hill College, both in Texas.

He began his career in education as a sixth-grade mathematics instructor.

Joel is the proud father of Cameron, who attends the College of William & Mary in Virginia, and daughter Bethany, who is a kindergarten instructional coach in Waco, Texas. She is married to son-in-law Casey. Joel also is the proud grandfather to Carson.
