Living on Campus
You will discover your independence, meet lifelong friends and be within walking distance
to your classes and student services. It's what college is meant to be.
Southeast Community College studies show students who live on campus are more likely to graduate than those who don’t. Campus living helps you stay focused and connected. It’s often your first-time living independently in a safe environment.
Living in a residence hall is cost-efficient and more economical than living off-campus. Many amenities are included in your 16-week semester cost:
-
-
- Electricity
- Wi-Fi internet access
- Garbage
- Heating and air-conditioning
- 14-meals per week in the dining hall

Depending on your SCC campus, we have apartment-style and suite-style coed, on-campus living options. Lounges with couches, big-screen televisions, computer labs, pool and ping pong tables, microwaves and vending machines are common spaces in the residence halls. SCC will clean the hallways and common areas, but you are responsible for cleaning your living space. We also expect you to clean up after yourself in the common areas. Parking on-campus is free.
The only SCC students required to live on-campus are student-athletes who receive any form of athletic scholarship. Outside of scholarship athletes, freshmen are not required to live on-campus although it is encouraged.

Students inquiring about an exemption from the SCC meal plan due to food allergies or intolerances, should first reach out to the Accommodations Resource Office (ARO) on their campus (studentada@southeast.edu). ARO will help the student connect with Great Western Dining to set up a meeting to discuss their individual dietary needs. If Great Western is unable to accommodate the student’s situation, ARO will collect and review the student’s medical documentation and request for a potential meal plan accommodation.
NOTE: Accommodation requests are for medical reasons or approved ADA requests only. Personal food preferences, food choices, wanting to cook own meals, likes and dislikes are not something that qualify for a meal plan accommodation.
Housing assignments are made on a first-come basis after the contract and deposit are both received. We will accept contracts up through the beginning of the term, provided space is still available. However, if you want to to choose your residence hall and have a roommate preference, getting your contract in prior to room assignments for the following term is important to increase the availability of your preferences. After room assignments are made, changes may not be possible. Below are the Priority Registration Deadlines for each term prior to room assignments. NOTE: The earlier you submit your contract and deposit, the more likely it is you will have a room available.
- MARCH 1 is the priority deadline for the upcoming FALL term
- OCTOBER 1 is the priority deadline for the upcoming SPRING term
- APRIL 1 is the priority deadline for the upcoming SUMMER term – NOTE: summer term housing may be limited by the College to specific residence halls as all halls will not be open for the summer
The earlier you submit you contract and deposit, the more likely it is you will have a room available.

To help make the most ideal room placement, Residence Life asks for residents to fill out our Roommate Questionnaire. Residents who have submitted their Housing Contract will be provided a link to their campus’ Roommate Questionnaire. In the questionnaire, you’ll be asked your preferences for the type of person you would be most compatible living with, including if you have any specific roommate requests (roommate requests must be mutual). Roommate Questionnaires filled out by May 1st will have the best chance to be most closely matched with roommates with similar interests - those filled out after May 1st will still be taken into consideration when possible.
If you find you do not get along with your roommate, changes will not be made in the first two weeks of the term. Our Residence Life staff will work with you and your roommate to try to work out your differences. After two weeks, if your differences cannot be resolved, Residence Life staff will change rooms if possible. Roommate changes are approved by the Residence Life Manager. If residence halls are near or at capacity, room changes may be more difficult to accommodate.
Residence Life staff plan a variety of activities and events throughout the semester which focus on educational, recreational and social opportunities for residents. Examples include game nights, movie nights, speakers, educational programs, pool tournaments, basketball tournaments, and late-night breakfasts during finals.
By choosing to live on campus, you will automatically receive the benefits of an on-campus meal plan. A 14-meals-per-week dining plan is included in the cost of all residence halls. Beatrice and Lincoln residents have the option to upgrade to a 19-meals-per-week plan.
Dining facilities include multiple options such as pizza, sandwiches, a daily special, and a full soup and salad bar to appeal to any appetite for the all-you care-to-eat meals with each card swipe.
Residence life students cannot opt out of the meal contract with Great Western. If you have food allergies or sensitivities, contact Great Western Food Service Manager for your location:

Resident Assistants are typically second-year/second-term students hired to work in the residence halls. As an RA, you provide leadership, team-building, community development, programming, and administration to students living on campus. Each RA lives on campus and they are hired according to each campus’ needs. Contact the Residence Life Office for more information.
All students will be provided information on meningococcal disease prior to check in and will be required to acknowledge receipt of this information.
