Private Education Loans |
---|
Some lenders offer private, “alternative”, loans to students to help cover educational costs. These loans generally require the borrower to have good credit or a credit-worthy cosigner. Eligibility requirements, application procedures, fees, interest rates, finance charges, and repayment terms, and deferment options may vary from lender to lender.
The terms and conditions of a Federal Direct loan or Federal Direct PLUS loan may be more favorable than the provisions of private education loans so families are encouraged to utilize the Federal Direct Loan and the Federal Direct PLUS Loan before considering an alternative loan.
Please review this information about the differences between federal and private student loans.
Southeast Community College has no preferred lender arrangements regarding private education loans.

Online and Distance Learning
All colleges must adhere to each state’s requirements regulating the delivery of online education to out-of-state students. These requirements limit SCC’s ability to offer online education in some areas outside of Nebraska.
Southeast Community College is a State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement Institution (NC-SARA) institution. As such, SCC is unable to offer online or distance courses to students in the following areas at this time: American Samoa, Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
For programs that lead to licensure or certification, the Department of Education allows the programs to be offered only where the school’s program meets the requirements of the student’s State of residence. Please refer to your program at Academics/All Programs under “State Licensure of Certification Requirements” to see if any restrictions affect your program.
Out-of-State Complaint Process
Southeast Community College is committed to resolving student complaints in an expeditious, fair and friendly manner. SCC's online students residing outside of Nebraska should resolve complaints with SCC by contacting Bruce Exstrom, Ph.D., Dean of Virtual Learning and Instructional Development, bexstrom@southeast.edu or 402-323-3389.
SCC works diligently to find positive outcomes to student concerns. Please try to exhaust all possible avenues of complaint resolution before going outside of the college. In Nebraska, the agency assigned to the oversight of NC-SARA processes is the Nebraska Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education. The Commission may be contacted at 402-471-2847.
Southeast Community College also provides a list of other State Agencies (PDF) with contact information for each state. You may also contact our accrediting agency, The Higher Learning Commission or the Nebraska State Department of Education.
Textbooks & Bookstores |
---|
SCC students are given the opportunity to purchase textbooks with their financial aid if the student has enough funds to cover direct costs to the college (tuition, fees, housing, etc.) and has a remaining credit balance on their account. Any book and/or supply purchase made with financial aid may not exceed the amount of credit remaining on the student’s account. Only books and supplies needed for the student’s program of study may be charged against the remaining credit.
Students can access the online bookstore or visit the bookstore on each campus. Find your textbook.
Diploma Programs with Reduced Financial Aid Eligibility |
---|
Diploma Programs with Reduced Financial Aid Eligibility
According to federal regulations [34 CFR 668.8(k) and (l), and guidance from the Department of Education, if a non-degree program (diploma, certificate) does not fully transfer to an associate degree, that program is subject to a specific calculation that will establish how many credits within the program are eligible for federal financial aid. The amount of aid available to the student is determined based on those eligible credits, and the student’s enrollment status (full-time, ¾ time, half-time, less-than-half-time).
So, what does this mean?
If a student enrolls in one of the programs subject to the calculation, federal financial
aid may be limited. You will be responsible for the tuition and fees for the number
of credits not covered by financial aid.
Please refer to the SCC catalog for current program requirements.
