Earn your Commercial Driver’s License over weekends at SCC
Because of increased demand and new regulations, Southeast Community College’s Milford Campus will now be offering students the opportunity to get their Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A) on weekends. This way, students can balance a full-time job with school, if desired.
For 16 weeks, classroom instruction will be all online beginning Jan. 10, 2022. Driving labs will be held on Fridays from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. beginning Jan. 14. April 30 is the final Saturday of the class.
“We are already seeing demand for this training ramp up and want to provide some flexibility of options while increasing the capacity for our program,” said Kevin Uhler, program director. “This is one way to do that by increasing efficiency of our facilities and equipment.”
Uhler added that there are new changes to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration guidelines effective in February. Training will be required before someone is allowed to test for their CDL license.
The College’s traditional eight-week classes also are being offered during the Spring Semester, with hands-on driving Monday through Wednesday and classroom instruction on Thursday and Friday. The two sessions run Jan. 10 through March 4 and from March 17 through May 5. Find out more about the program at www.southeast.edu/truckdriver.
