18 SCC Students Qualify for SkillsUSA Nationals

The Southeast Community College SkillsUSA Lincoln and Milford Chapters had a strong showing at the 2025 Nebraska State Leadership and Skills Championships, April 10-12 in Grand Island. Eighteen students qualified for the National Leadership and Skills Conference, June 23-27 in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition, four The Career Academy students also qualified for nationals.

“I am so proud of the efforts and accomplishments of all our student competitors,” said Lynnette Frey, SCC Manufacturing Engineering Technology program chair and SkillsUSA advisor. “Many students spent evening and weekends studying and preparing for this competition.”

SCC had 103 students competing at the state competition between the Lincoln, Milford and TCA chapters earning 47 total medals. The Milford chapter won 27 medals while the Lincoln and TCA chapters each won 10. The breakdown by chapter is:

  • Lincoln: 27 state participants, 10 medals (6 gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze)
  • Milford: 46 state participants, 27 medals (13 gold, 8 silver, 6 bronze)
  • TCA: 30 state participants, 10 medals (5 gold, 1 silver, 4 bronze)

Gold winners at the state level qualify for the national competition. SCC’s qualifiers per competition include:

  • Basic Healthcare Skills: Sara Newbanks (Milford)
  • CNC 2 Axis Turning: Nathan Middleton (Milford)
  • CNC 3 Axis Milling Programmer: Matthew Nelson (Milford)
  • CNC Programmer: Sam Krause (Milford)
  • Commercial Roofing: Dominic Crowner (TCA)
  • Computer Programming High School: Jacob Duncan (TCA)
  • Criminal Justice: Titus Williams (Lincoln)
  • Culinary Arts High School: Sophie Wilder (TCA)
  • Culinary Arts College: Abby Steel (Lincoln)
  • Diesel Equipment Technology: Calvin Kruntorod (Milford)
  • Industrial Motor Controls: Chris Kovac (Milford)
  • Internetworking: Madison Fields (Lincoln)
  • Masonry: Philip Karpov (Milford)
  • Motorcycle Service Technology: Ethan Joy (Milford)
  • Restaurant Service High School: Parker Littrel (TCA)
  • Restaurant Service College: Affoue Boko (Lincoln)
  • Technical Computer Applications: Corey Sheesley (Lincoln)
  • Technical Drafting: Jackson Graves (Milford)
  • Welding Fabrication: Tyson Malousek, Kaleb Swanson, Clint Schumacher (Lincoln)

“It is exciting when students get to prove their knowledge and skill in a field where they will soon be professionals in the industry,” Frey said. “I am thankful for the SkillsUSA organization and the opportunities it creates for students. It warms my heart to see these students so passionate and engaged in their field of study.”
