Program Description

You can have a meaningful impact on the future through your work with young children. In our Early Childhood Education – Infant/Toddler certificate program, you will learn observation, assessment, and guidance strategies with specific focus on the development of children from prenatal through 36 months. Students will complete a practicum and learn about literacy, safety, nutrition, and family relationships.

Early Childhood Education students are caring individuals with strong communication skills. You are a good fit for this program if you are interested in working with children and families. The ability to lift and carry children is important. 

You can start in the Fall or Spring term. Follow these steps to finish your application:

  3. Ready to apply? Complete an Application for Admission.
  4. Submit ACT, SAT, Next Generation Accuplacer, or Accuplacer test scores (reading and math) or official college transcripts showing completion of post-secondary coursework in English and math to the Admissions Office at any SCC location.

A Criminal Background Check will be required of each student in this program. Based on the outcome of the CBC, a student may be prevented from taking certain courses, accessing certain laboratory experiences, or completing the program. A non-refundable fee of $45 will be assessed for the CBC.


Accreditation

The Early Childhood Education Associate of Applied Science Degree at Southeast Community College is accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Early Childhood Higher Education Programs of the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Program reaccreditation is pending.

State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement Institution

Southeast Community College is a State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement Institution (NC-SARA) institution. As such, SCC is unable to offer online or distance courses to students in the following areas at this time: American Samoa, Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
